Natural attractions in Zakynthos Island

Find the Blue Caves in the northern part of the island, in the Cape Schinari area. These blue caves represent, in fact, an unusual geological formation that creates an unmistakable marine landscape. It can be both in the shape of the rocks and in the blue intense water, especially visible in the morning light. Make sure you visit at least the biggest one, the Kianoun Grotto, which is easily reached by boat from St. Nicholas harbour.

Cape Keri is a rocky coast known for its magnificent panorama, the lighthouse and the two rocks that emerge from the sea. You can observe it from the observation point of the tavern lying on the way to the lighthouse. Cape Keri is also the place where the highest mast in Greece, 30 m high, was built.

Caretta Caretta turtles are the largest turtles in the world. They migrate to the Bay of Laganas in June, July, August to lay eggs and are a true tourist attraction of Zakynthos Island. You should know that the bay is the largest nesting site and is a protected area, being supervised. Aquatic sports are prohibited in this perimeter. Secondly, all the beaches that have protected areas will close after sunset and open after sunrise. The beaches of Gerakas and Sekania are the favourite for the turtles, so you will have chances to see them here on the beach or in the water.

Other attractions in Zakynthos Island

Navagio Shipwreck is located on Navagio Bay and is the main tourist destination of Zakynthos Island. The ship was called Panagiotis and failed as it tried to pass during a storm. Navagio Beach is one of the most photographed and covered beach in Greece. The brilliant white sand and the water of an unrevealed blue will stay for a long time in front of your eyes. Access to the beach is done by boat or can be seen from above on a platform of 183 m height.

The museum of Solomos and Kavlos is one of the most important museums on the island. It includes the mausoleum which houses the bones of the poet Dionysios Solomos, the poet Andrew Kavlos and his wife. In the museum you will see poems and manuscripts of Dionysios Solomos, personal items such as albums, books and many other things. The museum gives you the opportunity to learn about of the culture that flourished on the island during this time.

Zante Town is located at the foot of the Bohali Hill. Although it is the largest island town, Zante does not have an arranged beach. A walk through the Bochali suburb, especially at sunset which is a must. From the top of the hill you can admire the most spectacular panorama of Zante, a place loved by photographers.
