Historic and cultural attractions in Tossa de Mar

Start with Vila Vella this medieval historical centre of the city. You will find it located on a hill above the bay. On the other hand, it is surrounded by walls dating back to the 12th century and rebuilt in 1387. However, almost the entire perimeter of the historic centre, along with the seven watch towers are intact. Villa Vella is definitely a National Historic Monument.

After that, visit the Roman Villa Ametllers located in the province of Tarracanensis, discovered after archaeological excavations. Firstly, according to the findings, the villa belonged to a very wealthy family. Secondly, the house has a central heating system, mosaics, ceramic objects and sculptures. Don’t miss El Castillo de Tosa de Mar because is the only example of a fortified medieval village that still exists on the Catalan coast. The Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar is right in the heart of the Vila Vella. It displays a selection of archaeological materials from the Roman period found in the Ametllers Villa. You can see pottery, coins and carved bone and ivory pieces, among others. The most noteworthy element is the superb Vitalis poly chrome mosaic, dating from the 4th century AD.
