Introduction and attractions

Firstly, you must know that this resort is the longest established and probably the best known on the island. Secondly, Puerto del Carmen has everything from beach side arcades to some of the most impressive luxury private villas in Lanzarote. Like many places in Lanzarote, it was originally a small fishing village. The old harbour is still a delightful place to visit, boasting some excellent seafood restaurants.

Although the resort has grown over the last twenty years, it now stretches along the whole 6 kilometres of golden sandy beaches. Moreover, the town has been saved from the high-rise buildings due to the strict planning restrictions. Come here for a great vacation.

Beaches in Puerto del Carmen

Playa Grande Beach is the most visited beach in the area. It is the most central beach with the easiest access and the best facilities. In addition, it has a sports area, a play area, showers, lifeguards and a parasol and sunbed service. Relax on the beach also bordered by the Avenida de las Playas promenade with the greatest variety of restaurants and shops.

Playa Chica is a beach for everyone. Bring your families and the older generation and appreciate the calm sea. Meanwhile the unique underwater reefs are very popular with divers. Practice kite-surfing and go on a submarine journey also possible here.

Nature attractions in Puerto del Carmen

Timanfaya National Park is a unique volcanic landscape that formed as a result of its eruption in 1730 and covers a quarter of the island’s surface. For many tourists, this is the main reason for their visit to Lanzarote.

Take a day trip to El Golfo an impressive natural amphitheatre. It is overlooking the ocean and was created as a result of volcanic activities in the 18th century. This spectacular semi-circular crater is partially flooded, making it a lake, also known as the “green lagoon”. This natural complex has become an important reservation protected by the authorities. Nearby, there is a beach and a small village, which is famous for its restaurants and historical buildings. El Golfo is one of the most spectacular natural landmarks in Lanzarote and sits in the southern part of the island.

The whale and dolphin museum is a very informative museum for your family with advanced knowledge in the field. The museum is right in the port of Puerto Calero and is certainly a museum suitable for this region because dolphins and whales abound around the Atlantic Ocean. Outside the museum is a huge whale skeleton. This will give you the opportunity to explore the construction of this mammal not only from the outside but also from the inside.

Mirador Del Rio is a particularly famous place, known for its stunning, panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. It is in front of the island of Famara Cliffs and is a stylish, luxurious building.
