Introduction and activities

Ayia Napa resort was once a poor fishing village. But currently is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Cyprus. The name of the resort comes from Saint Panaya. Therefore, the legend says that a hunter found the icon of the Virgin Mary in a nearby cave. A church was built here later. In conclusion, a holiday here means relaxing on a Blue Flag beach, culinary delights, shopping and karaoke after dinner.

The beaches are considered the most beautiful of Cyprus. This makes it a top resort for most of the tourists who come to this island. Firstly, the beaches are clean with fine sand and clear blue turquoise waters. Secondly, there are modern facilities with sunbeds and umbrellas which gives to some of the beaches, an award-winning Blue Flag. In short, the beach is not just a simple destination, because here you have plenty of options for relaxation and leisure. For example you can choose from cruises around the island, shopping or evening walks on the seafront near the harbour.

Beaches of Ayia Napa

Nissi Beach is the most popular beach and probably the most well-known on the island of Cyprus. It is made up of 2 connecting beaches, one long and lively, the other smaller and quieter. The beaches have golden sands and the waters are clean and clear. You can walk in the sea for up to 100 metres without the water passing your waist. This is because here are many sand bars in the shallows. Moreover, a variety of water sports can be enjoyed including paddling, parasailing and inflatables. Nissi means small island in Greek and there is indeed a small island which during the summer can be reached by walking through the shallow water.

Konnos Bay is at the most Eastern edge of Ayia Napa. It is the jewel of Cape Greco National Park. The bay attracts a mix of visitors and is also very popular with local people, especially at weekends and during national holidays. The white sand beach melts into crystal clear waters. This is a favourite spot for private yachts and motorboats to drop anchor for a few hours.

Macronissos Beach is made up of several small beaches interlinked by coastal pathways. It offers excellent conditions for a pleasant rest on the beach – golden. It features soft and clean sand, calm sea and an atmosphere of harmony. The beaches are also popular with families with young children due to the gently shelving sands and calm atmosphere. Water sports are available as well as a snack bar for refreshments.
